Becoming "Twitter Poppin'!"

Chapter 9 on The Art of Social Media speaks about making your twitter chat interesting. A twitter chat is a live event in which people put a hashtag in their tweets to discuss some topic in particular. What you have is a "host " and a "guest". The host tweets the questions with the hashtag, and a guest tweets responses with the same exact hashtag. The people who are on Twitter at that very moment during the live event want to know what exactly the topic is about so that they may pitch in on some questions, comments, and retweets. Twitter chats is a perfect tool to get twitter users to engage with other users. In addition, twitter chats present a special challenge because guest need to think and type fast. Some of the users find it easier to speak rapidly than to type. Most of the people would use Google+Hangouts in order to speak rather than type.

A great solution to having a live twitter chat is to use a short hashtag that everyone could remember. This also requires less typing for others who don't use the tools such as Tchat and Twubs. If you were to pick a short and evergreen hashtag, the brand awareness increases once the live chat is over. The most important key to stimulating a live video chat is to prepare the guests for an interesting topic and to become audience driven. People want to see the importance of the live chat and discover the meaning behind that hashtag. Sometimes the hashtag attracts others' curiosity and that is what will bring others to the conversation. Whoever is hosting the chat has the most important role. And that role is to keep the chat interesting and entertaining at the same time.

Spreading the word about the live chat is also necessary to gain popularity on the subject. This can be done in various ways. You can either post the topic hashtag outside of twitter which may get others to question what the hashtag means or simply post information about the live tweets. The last and final step that should be accomplished is summarizing the information and gathering all the tweets that were posted on that live chat and explaining the importance of that topic. This will grasp others attention in to doing more live tweets with an interesting topic.

  2. Great post, on how to make your live tweeting good. Twitter was something I was never really into except for looking at funny pictures and tweets occasionally. But when we live tweeted our journey to Taco Bell, it made me want to use Twitter more often and for actually posting every now and then. I still have not really done anything with my account, but I might try live tweeting some random interesting stuff I'm doing one day and see how it goes. I'm definitely going to have to try it with some of these tips.
