Measurement in Higher Education

Image
This blog will cover Chapter 14 on "Measure What Matters". This chapter speaks about the marketing methods and metrics used in the academic environment. Social media is also measured in the academic environment. Research shows that social media is an important source for the higher academic admissions department. In addition, it's commonly used in academia more than the corporate world. Communication in the university setting depend on social media to reach out to students, alumni and even parents. Social media provides a wonderful opportunity and a potential liability to your communication and marketing efforts. Surveying is also a key action to measuring what people think so you can gather accurate information about your institution. This survey can be done through social media, by telephone, or by email. The last and most important step to measuring the metrics in higher education is analyzing the data, gleaning insight, making changes and measuring again. This is

Jazz at ONU

Image
There have been numerous learning opportunities by the weekly jam sessions at Ohio Northern University (ONU). These jam sessions are performed by students who participate in the jazz band. These jam sessions are great for students because they get to hear the difference in the sound of a melodic group and the background noise of a normal day. When these students listen to a jam session, they are put at ease by the sounds, which makes their day more relaxed and slow paced. Gene Parker, adjunct professor of jazz at ONU, runs these jam sessions. According to Parker, the jam sessions have created a jazz culture at ONU that have not existed previously. "Jam sessions are very important," Parker said. "They're like labs or co-ops for musicians. They allow new musicians to build networks, find gigs and perform bands. Students can find new teachers, and professionals can see students with potential." In my opinion, with ONU implementing jam sessions provides a

President Trump expresses how he feels on Twitter about LaVar Ball not saying "thank you" for saving his son, LiAngelo Ball, from jail time in China

Image
UCLA basketball player and son of LaVar Ball, LiAngelo Ball, was arrested in China on November 7 for shoplifting along with other UCLA teammates. The moment this incident occurred, President Trump made a defense against LiAngelo and saved him from being imprisoned in China. Instead, LiAngelo was released back to the U.S. with no jail time. After everything was settled, President Trump had expected a display of gratitude from the Ball family, especially the father, LaVar Ball. LaVar Ball did not end up thanking President Trump after this incident. LaVar said "Why do I gotta give thanks? Let me handle my son and lets stay in our lanes." President Trump did not take this response too lightly. This situation had aggravated the president. He then posted a tweet on Twitter about how he should have left the players in jail because LaVar Ball was being ungrateful. For the president himself tweeting negatively gives the Ball family a bad reputation.

Protecting Your Reputation

Image
This blog is based on our weekly reading on Chapter 11 on "Measure What Matters". This chapter talks about identifying and measuring the crisis that occurs in business marketing through social media. Your reputation in business marketing is the most important factor. This gives the person you are potentially working with more comfort knowing who you are based on the actions you make. According to what is said on page 163, your reputation also influences the likelihood your opponents will sue you, protest at your doorstep or write letters to government officials complaining about you. The best way to maintain a good reputation is to listen to your customers and measure the level of trust because that can have a major impact on you and your organization. Trust is very essential to developing and defending your reputation. As long as your associates can observe that you are a person that carries good qualities and is worthy of investing time, your reputation will remain goo

Football Season is Over

Image
The Ohio Northern University football teams season has come to an end. Now, is the time of the year when I am the most melancholy because I will no longer be playing any more games and having fun at practice with the team until next year. However, we ended the season on a great note by winning more games. Our record for the season was seven wins and three losses. We came out strong this season, practiced together hard, developed a positive mindset and played to the best of our ability. There was great leadership coming from the seniors on the team. Being a freshman on the team gave me new experiences, especially being a first year collegiate athlete. This opportunity had me playing at a higher level of competition and being in the presence of a typical college football game. I have a feeling that we will be a much stronger unit next season if we continue to carry the same work ethic and believe in each other.

Which Platform Do I Favor the Most?

Image
Social media platforms have been a great source when communicating to different people and expanding business opportunities. As for me, social media has played a huge role in my life. However, there is one platform that I use the most. I tend to be on Instagram often to view what is going on today in the world visually through pictures and videos. Not only do I look at Instagram as a general social media platform, but I look at Instagram as another news platform. Every time I'm on my explore feed, I am always seeing what is going on today in America. I primarily like to focus on what is going on in sports. I am all about being informed on the trades and contracts or any other incident that occurs in the NBA and NFL. Instagram also provides more highlight videos from the latest games. Instagram is truly an amazing source to keep people updated and still be involved in your life through only pictures and videos. Yes, any other social media platform is a great source to see how s

The Right Measurement Tool

Image
Chapter 4 in "Measure What Matters" is based on looking for the right measuring tool for networking and marketing through social media. This chapter spoke about how gathering data from media outlets and customers in an essential strategy because a broader aspect is developed and new techniques come about. This chapter also provides information about the basic tool set required to measure any of your programs and how to best control the costs from the different tools. This is identifying the typical metrics for measuring the marketing objectives, gathering data and sample vendors to supply the tools. This chapter has taught me a lot on how to be involved with the simple metrics in gathering data when marketing with other businesses through social media. Before making any move to look for networking opportunities, it's essential to use the right measuring tool for the amount of data you search for.

Posting Re-Evaluation

Image
This blog post will primarily speak about the actions many social media users engage in when using any social media platform. Any social media platform is vulnerable for giving you a certain reputation as a person. The reason being based on the content you may post on your platform, somebody who follows you or anybody who views your profile may be influenced or effected. The first thing that pops into a person’s head when viewing a post is the person who actually posted the content on the platform. At times we would question why they posted it and message they are trying to send. Some of the posts that people put on their social media platforms might be offensive to others for whatever reason. When this occurs, the people who are offended tend to blame the person who shared the post. People might find out that your posts are offending other people. Then suddenly, you become "the bad guy" All due to the results of you not being aware of the content you put out in the wor

ONU Women's Volleyball

Image
The women's volleyball team at Ohio Northern University (ONU) has had a very successful season with 27 wins, five losses and being nationally ranked at 18. The team will be playing in the first round of the Division III NCAA Tournament on Friday November 10, ONU will make it's way to Wittenberg, Ohio to take on DePauw University. The ONU volleyball team now has a great chance to advance to the national championship if they continue to win. Also, if ONU continues to win more games, this will give our university another successful title for the success we had. It was a great opportunity to watch the women's volleyball team against Mount Union last Thursday, November 2. The fans were going wild, and the team played with passion while gaining another victory. The level of competition they put out showed the hard work and intensity they've been putting in at practice the entire season. I look forward to the team gaining more success as the season continues.
